Police: Taylor Man Shot In The Head By Burglar

TAYLOR (WWJ) - A Downriver man is fighting for his life after surprising a burglar in his home.

Taylor Police Chief Mary Sclabassi says the man and his wife came home Monday night to find someone had forced his way in. There was a confrontation and the homeowner was shot in the head.

"The best thing to do, and what we always tell people, is that if you've returned home and you think there's been some kind of break-in is to immediately retreat and call the police," she told WWJ Newsradio 950's Sandra McNeil.

But Sclabassi said that wasn't possible in this case — because the couple didn't realize that there was someone else in  their home until they were already well inside.

The victim, whose name has not been released, remained in critical condition Tuesday afternoon.

The only description police have on a suspect is a very thin, white man in his late 20s to early 30s ; about 5 feet, 7 inches tall. Investigators have been interviewing neighbors to see if they saw anything.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Taylor Police Department at 734-287-6611.
