Police Swarm Oak Park Neighborhood After 'Random' Shooting

OAK PARK (WWJ) - An Oak Park neighborhood quickly turned into a crime scene after a man was injured in what police say was a random shooting.

The situation unfolded early Wednesday morning outside of a home on Albany Street near Scotia Road, just south of 9 Mile Road.

Oak Park Police Lt. Samantha Kretzschmar said the shooting happened as several people were gathered at the home.

"Two people were outside having a conversation and at some point, a third person walked up without speaking, shot the male subject that was outside and fled the scene," Kretzschmar told WWJ's Mike Campbell.

A man who did not want to be named said he was inside the home when the shots rang out.

"I heard 'Pow!' a gunshot and then I heard them running and trying to bust through the door, trying to get in the house. And he was saying "I got shot,' holding his stomach, like, 'Call the police! Call the police,'" he said.

The man was taken to a local hospital, although his current condition is unknown. A woman who was also outside was uninjured.

Police are looking for the suspect but have no description.

Investigators say there's no indication as to what might have led to the shooting, which appears to be random.
