Police: Suspect Tried Hiding In Chili's After Robbing Pretzel Peddler At Macomb Mall

ROSEVILLE (WWJ) - Police say they found a suspect hiding inside a Chili's restaurant after he allegedly robbed a pretzel stand at the Macomb Mall.

The incident unfolded around 8:50 p.m. Thursday at the mall, located off of Gratiot Avenue and Masonic Boulevard in Roseville.

Police responded to the area after receiving a report of a robbery at the Pretzel Peddler food stand. An employee told police that the suspect approached the counter and passed a note that demanded cash and implied he had a gun.

The employee handed over an undetermined amount of cash and the suspect -- who was wearing  a gray hoodie, gray shorts and ball cap -- took off on foot.

According to police, witnesses said they saw the man run from the mall in the direction of Chili's, which is located in the mall parking lot. When officers arrived at the restaurant, the suspect was talking with members of Macomb Mall Security, saying he was trying to make a reservation for dinner.

Officers further discovered that the suspect -- who was now wearing a gray t-shirt and black shorts -- had discarded a sweatshirt outside the restaurant and dumped other clothing items in the restaurant's restroom. At that point, the suspect was taken into custody.

Police say no weapon was found at the time of arrest.

The suspect's name has not yet been released.

The incident remains under investigation. Charges are pending.
