Suspected Meth Lab Uncovered At Warren Home Following Police Standoff

WARREN (WWJ) - Authorities say a suspected meth lab was discovered at a Warren home where a barricaded gunman held police at bay for several hours overnight.

The situation unfolded around 10 p.m. Tuesday when police were called to a home on Georgiana Street, near 8 Mile Road and Groesbeck Highway, on a report of an assault involving a gun.

When officers arrived on the scene, the suspect barricaded himself inside the home and refused to come out.

Additional law enforcement was called to the scene and several hours later, negotiators were finally able to talk the suspect out of the home. The man was taken into custody without further incident early Wednesday morning. No shots were fired and no one was injured.

Following the standoff, Michigan State Police investigators were called to the house after officers discovered what was described as a homemade meth lab. HAZMAT and fire crews also responded to the home.

Reporting live from the scene, WWJ's Mike Campbell workers in protective suits removed several five-gallon barrels from the home, along with smaller bottles and containers filled with various substances suspected of being used to produce methamphetamine.

An investigation is ongoing.
