Police Stake-Out Nets Arrest In String Of Gas Thefts

GRAND RAPIDS (WWJ/AP) - A 42-year-old Grand Rapids man has been arrested by officers investigating a string of large gasoline thefts. Officers were staking out a business about 1 a.m. when they say they saw a man pumping diesel fuel from a truck into van containing two large holding tanks.

Jeffrey Pardee was arraigned on receiving and concealing stolen property, malicious destruction of property, and larceny charges.

More than 40 large thefts of gasoline, diesel fuel and equipment have been reported in the Grand Rapids area since October.
