Police Shoot Man In Face After Stabbing Attack On Grandma At Mobile Home Park

ERIE TWP. (WWJ) - A man was shot by police after he allegedly stabbed his grandmother during an argument at a mobile home park in Monroe County.

The incident unfolded just after 6 p.m. Thursday at the Oakwood Mobile Home Park on Telegraph Road, not far from the Michigan-Ohio border.

The 30-year-old man and his 68-year-old grandmother, who live next door to each other, reportedly got into an argument before the stabbing. The man allegedly lured his grandmother into her bathroom, where he stabbed her with a large handled kitchen knife, according to the Monroe News.

Police say the woman was stabbed once in the back of the neck and again in the face. She managed to wrangle the knife away from her grandson and fled to a neighbor's home for help.

As someone called 911, other residents surrounded the home to keep the suspect from escaping.

When police arrived on the scene, the woman was bleeding from her head and had a towel wrapped around her face to cover her wounds.

Deputies ordered the man to exit the home, but he refused. When police finally made entry into the home, they found the man sitting in the bathtub, holding what appeared to be a weapon.

Deputies gave the man several orders to drop whatever he was holding, but he did not comply. At that point, a deputy fired his weapon at the man, striking him in the face.

The woman and her grandson were both taken to St. Vincent's Hospital in Toledo for treatment. Both were last reported in critical but stable condition.

The incident remains under investigation. A report will be submitted to the Monroe County Prosecutor's Office for review.
