Police Seek Charges Against Man Jailed In Separate Case

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Police investigating a Dec. 15 knife attack on a woman in a Detroit suburb are seeking charges against a man already jailed in the stabbing of a Detroit woman during an attempted rape.

The Wayne County prosecutor's office says Grosse Pointe Park authorities named 19-year-old Darian Winfield Tuesday in a warrant request. Charges in the Dec. 15 attack are not expected this week.

Winfield was arraigned Sunday on assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct, assault with intent to murder and home invasion charges in the Dec. 30 stabbing of a 39-year-old woman in her home.

Prosecutors say he also is a person of interest in an attack Thursday in Detroit on a 17-year-old girl who died Tuesday from her injuries after she was beaten and raped as she slept in her bed at her east side Detroit home.

Police say someone climbed through a window at the family's house, in the 5500-block of Radnor Street, and beat the girl severely in the head on Jan. 7.

He has not been charged in that case.
