Police Searching For Man Who Approached 2 Teen Girls In Redford

REDFORD (WWJ) -- Redford police are searching for a suspicious man who approached two teenage girls at the Redford Oaks Shopping Center on Sunday afternoon.

Lieutenant David Holt told WWJ Newsradio 950's Lauren Barthold that the man was driving a dark green van around 4:30 p.m. when he gestured with his finger for the girls to come to his vehicle.

"It isn't technically against the law, of course, to gesture to someone to have them come over to their vehicle," Holt said. "But, under the circumstances an adult in a van gesturing for a teenager to come over to the vehicle is highly suspicious and alarming."

The suspect is described as an adult black man. The vehicle is a 2004 Ford Econoline van with license plate DAV1745.

"We're taking it very seriously," Holt said. "It may not be a crime, there are other reasons that a person would want to gesture to have someone come over to their car, but we definitely would like to find this person and speak to them."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Redford Police.
