Police Search For Serial Burglar Targeting Waterford Homes

WATERFORD TWP. (WWJ) - Investigators are trying to track down the person suspected of breaking into at least a half-dozen homes in Waterford Township.

Police say the latest incident happened around 3:20 p.m. on Thursday at a home on Ashby Court, near Cooley Lake and Cass Elizabeth roads. The resident told police they had just returned home and found a man trying to break in. The suspect fled the scene on foot once he realized the homeowner had returned, police said.

Responding officers set up a perimeter around the neighborhood and a K-9 unit was able to track the suspect for a short distance before the trail was lost. It's thought that the suspect escaped the area in a small, white vehicle.

Investigators believe the suspect may be involved in as many as six other reported burglaries in the Cooley Lake/Cass Elizabeth area within the last week.

The suspect is described as an unknown male, wearing a red hat and blue coat.

Anyone with information on this incident or similar crimes in the area is urged to contact police at 248-618-7515.
