Police Search For 'Road Rage' Driver Who Crashed Into Van Full Of Kids
DETROIT (WWJ) - Michigan State Police are looking for the driver responsible for crashing into a van that was carrying four children down a busy freeway in an apparent case of road rage.
The incident unfolded around 7 a.m. Friday in the northbound lanes of the Southfield Freeway just south of Warren Avenue in Detroit.
According to police, a red van was travelling in the freeway's right lane when a black Chevrolet Tahoe passed the victim and one of the SUV's two occupants "threw some unidentified debris" at the van's windshield.
The woman who was driving the van told police the Tahoe then slowed down beside her and struck the rear driver-side of her vehicle in a "police style pit maneuver." The collision caused the van to spin around at least three times before striking the median wall. The Tahoe fled the scene after the crash.
The woman was taken to Sinai Grace Hospital where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries. Four children inside the van, who are between the ages of six and nine, were uninjured and released to a relative on the scene.
Police were unable to get a description of the two individuals in the Tahoe, which is expected to have minor damage to the passenger-side front quarter panel.
