Police Search For Phony Feds
STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) - Police in Sterling Heights are looking for several suspects in connection with two separate incidents of men posing as law enforcement officials.
Lt. Luke Riley says the first incident involved three men and happened in late April on Cherry Creek Lane.
"They were posing as ATF -- Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearm -- agents and, basically, they were let into the residence because the homeowners believed they were who they said; and they ended up going through the residence. They removed an amount of cash, firearm and cell phone," says Riley.
Police say the second incident happened this week on Hacker Street. Lt. Riley says three men claimed to be the FBI and the homeowner let them in.
"They knew a distant family member, whether it was a cousin or nephew, I don't know; but when they asked for him, they asked for him by name. So, the homeowner said, 'I think I've seen you before,' at which time all three of the subjects fled from the residence and took off," says Riley.
Lt. Riley says there are six suspects in all. However, Riley does not believe the two incidents are related.
"One was basically a robbery. The other one, the individuals were looking for a person that they thought may still live there. And the description is different. They are different subjects," says Riley.
All of the suspects are still at-large.
