Police Search For Hit-And-Run Driver Who Fatally Struck Bicyclist

LIVONIA (WWJ) - Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who fatally struck a man riding his bike in Livonia.

The accident occurred around 9:30 p.m. Monday near the intersection of Newburgh and Schoolcraft roads.

According to police, a 64-year-old Plymouth man was riding his bicycle when he was struck by a vehicle. The driver fled the scene after the crash, police said.

The man, whose name was not released, was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police did not immediately release a description of the suspect's vehicle. Witnesses are being sought.

The incident was one of three hit-and-run accidents reported on Monday. In Detroit, an 8-year-old girl was on her way to buy ice cream when she was critically hurt by a hit-and-run driver. In Brighton, a 35-year-old man was walking along on the median side of eastbound M-14 when he was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver.
