Police: Retired Detroit Police Officer Shot During Attempted Carjacking

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police confirming to WWJ Newsradio 950 that a retired police officer has been shot during what appears to be an attempted carjacking.

According to authorities, around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, a retired officer had pulled over to the side of the road in the area of Plymouth and Forrer in Detroit to use his cell phone, and was approached by a man wearing a mask.

The two struggled and the officer was shot - he is being treated at Providence Hospital. His condition has not been released.

It is not known if the retired officer had a gun or not.

The suspect is at large according to police.
