Police: Pastor Shoots, Kills Man Inside Church In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - A Detroit pastor was questioned and released by police after shooting a man who threatened him with a brick.

Service was in taking place when a man allegedly confronted the pastor and then was shot and killed inside a small church in Detroit.

Detroit police say a 25-year-old man turned up at the City of God Church shortly before 2 p.m.

According to police, and the suspect threatened the pastor and the congregation with the brick.  The pastor pulled out a gun and fired on the man.  Authorities say the victim had an issue with the pastor and had threatened him in the past.

"We will submit an investigators report to the prosecutor to make a determination as to what to charge or not," said Assistant Chief of Police Steve Dolunt.

Authorities say the pastor made at least one police report in the past indicting he felt threatened by the man.

"Not sure exactly sure what about but it was enough that the pastor felt threatened, and the individual was angry enough to go after the pastor in church," said Dolunt.

The report will likely focus on whether the pastor was justified in the shooting says WWJ's Legal Analyst Charlie Langton.

Police are still investigating the incident. If you have any information regarding this situation you are asked to call Detroit police.
