Police: Motorcyclist Was Racing, Popping Wheelie At Time Of Fatal Accident

LINCOLN PARK (WWJ) - Police say a 21-year-old man who was killed in a crash Downriver was racing his motorcycle and driving on only one wheel when he was struck by another vehicle.

The accident happened around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday on Dix Highway, between Southfield Road and Outer Drive in Lincoln Park.

When police arrived on the scene, they found Jacob Browne, of Woodhaven, dead in the street and 71-year-old Robert Omara, of Detroit, dead inside his vehicle, which was stopped against a light pole with heavy damage to the driver's side door.

Browne was apparently traveling down Dix Highway when he was struck by Omara's vehicle, which was turning out of an area business.

According to police, eyewitnesses and surveillance camera footage from nearby businesses show that "Browne was racing down Dix doing a wheelie at the time of the impact."

The accident was investigated by Michigan State Police.
