Police: Missing Pregnant Woman Found Dead In Trunk

WYOMING, Mich. (WWJ/AP) - Police say a pregnant woman missing in the Grand Rapids area has been found dead in a vehicle driven by a man suspected of killing her boyfriend.

Police found 18-year-old Brooke Slocum dead in the trunk of the murder suspect's vehicle after it crashed on a highway entrance ramp.

Police Chief James Carmody told the Grand Rapids Press the car crashed after a police chase Thursday night. The driver was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, Carmody said. Officers found the woman's body after confirming the suspect was dead.

Wyoming police found Slocum's boyfriend, Charles Oppenneer, dead on Wednesday in Gezon Park. Oppenneer and Slocum had last been seen leaving her Grand Rapids apartment on Saturday. She was eight months pregnant with his child.

Police haven't identified the suspect or disclosed his connection to the couple. Carmody said investigators were preparing a search warrant for the suspect's Wyoming home when he left the residence.

Investigators are expected to update the case on Friday.
