Michigan Man Flees Police, Loses Legs After Being Dragged By Train

SAGINAW (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say a 20-year-old man who tried to escape police by diving under a moving train in Michigan has lost both of his legs.

State troopers on Monday night were looking for robbery suspects in Saginaw when they saw a driver make an improper turn, WSGW-AM reported. Police tried to stop the Saginaw man, but he abandoned the vehicle he was driving and ran until he was blocked by the train.

Officers ordered the man to freeze but instead, he got down on all fours and tried to crawl under the moving train. He was dragged for about 1,000 feet before the train could stop.

One of the man's legs was severed by the train. He was taken to a hospital where his other leg was amputated, according to The Saginaw News.

Police say the man had two misdemeanor traffic warrants for his arrest. His name has not been released.
