Police: African Man With Strong Accent Assaulted Woman At Oakland University

ROCHESTER (WWJ) - Police at Oakland University are warning the campus community after a woman was assaulted in a parking lot.

The assault happened around 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 3 in the P26 parking lot outside Varner Hall along Pioneer Drive.

Several minutes prior to the assault, police say the suspect asked if he could buy the victim a cup of coffee, and then asked if he could walk her to her vehicle.

Once at the woman's vehicle, the suspect allegedly attempted to kiss her and put his hands around her waist and under her clothing. The woman told the suspect to stop and was loud enough to draw the attention of a person nearby, according to police. The suspect noticed the bystander looking at them, which allowed the woman a chance to get into her vehicle and drive away.

The suspect is described as a black male in his 20s, 5'10" to 6' tall with a thin, athletic build, short dark hair and a receding hair line. He was wearing a grey shirt, jeans and boots. The victim told police that the suspect claimed he was from Africa, and spoke with a strong accent.
