Police: Man Who Crashed Into Tree Along 8 Mile Road Was Shot First

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - Investigators are trying to solve a murder mystery after a car accident in Southfield.

The incident unfolded around 11 p.m. Wednesday when a 54-year-old Farmington Hills man crashed his vehicle into a tree near 8 Mile and Northland Drive, between Greenfield and Southfield roads. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the man had injuries from a gunshot wound.

The victim was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. His name wasn't released.

Police say two officers actually saw the car crash, while paramedics working on the man discovered the gunshot wound.

At this point, police aren't sure where the shots were fired or if the victim was somehow targeted.
