Police: Man Tried To Run Over Security Guard At Renaissance Festival

GROVELAND TWP. (WWJ) - A Fenton man is facing assault charges after allegedly hitting a security guard at the Renaissance Festival on Labor Day.

Oakland County Sheriff's deputies arrested the 31-year-old vendor around 11 p.m. Monday after being called about a man passed out in his car. The caller told police they thought the vendor was in possession of stolen property.

When police arrived on the scene, the man woke up and sped away at a high rate of speed, almost striking one of the festival security guards.

"The subject returned and entered into an argument with security and then tried to run him over with his vehicle," police said in a statement. He was arrested and jailed.

The security guard was struck by the man's vehicle but was not injured.

According to police, the man was in possession of possible narcotics and was possibly under the influence of alcohol. Police said the man was not in possession of stolen property. His name was not immediately released.

An investigation is ongoing.
