Police: Man Charged In String Of Car Break-Ins Part Of A Criminal Crew

DETROIT (WWJ) -- A Detroit man is in custody, facing a laundry list of charges after being caught breaking into several vehicles, including one in Harper Woods.

Deante Hurt, 21, was one of three suspects caught with stolen money and credit cards. Police say he was armed with a large knife and a Taser at the time of his arrest.

Hurt was charged with four counts of financial transaction device-stealing/retaining without consent, breaking and entering a vehicle to steal property, carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent, and possession or sale of a Taser.

Detectives believe Hurt is part of a crew that has been breaking into vehicles in Harper Woods and the surrounding communities for the past few weeks.

Hurt was given a $5,000 cash bond and is required to wear a GPS tether if he is able to pay.

The next court date is set for September 28.
