Police: Macomb County Woman Lied About Abduction, Robbery

CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A Macomb County woman is facing charges after police say she lied about being kidnapped and robbed. Now she may be the one who winds up behind bars.

Police are seeking charges against the 31-year-old New Baltimore woman for false report of a felony after investigators determined she fabricated a story about being abducted.

Police say the woman called them around 11:10 p.m. Tuesday to report that she was kidnapped hours earlier, around 8:30 p.m., from the parking lot of B&B Party Story on 23 Mile Road near I-94 in Chesterfield Township.

The woman told police she had pulled into the rear of the lot and exited to purchase a pack of cigarettes, when she was approached from behind by two suspects who ordered her back into her vehicle at gunpoint.

The woman said the suspects ordered her to drive to East Detroit High School, in the area of 9 Mile and Gratiot, while they sat in the back seat of her vehicle. The woman also said the suspects rummaged through her purse while she was driving and stole her cash and her cell phone. The men left her vehicle on foot towards the school without further incident and she drove back to her New Baltimore home.

The woman described both of the suspects as black men in their 20s; One suspect was wearing a full-body camouflage snow suit, while the other had a dark blue hooded jacket and beanie hat.

"No such crime took place at the B&B party store on 23 Mile Road, nor was the victim ever at this location," police said in a statement. "We do appreciate the tipsters and callers that shared information they felt relevant during our investigation."

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 586-949-3304.
