Police: Leg Found In Lansing River Belonged To Missing Man
LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say part of a leg found in the Grand River in Lansing belonged to a man reported missing in the spring.
The Lansing State Journal and WILX-TV report that the Ingham County medical examiner's office confirmed Tuesday that the leg was Manuel Pena's.
It was found Friday by an angler.
The 56-year-old Pena last was seen April 25. The body of his 38-year-old girlfriend, Josephina Betancourt, was found May 8 in the river.
Lansing police officer Robert Merritt said in a statement that "while it is presumed that Mr. Pena is deceased, at this time the medical examiner lacks sufficient evidence to determine this with certainty."
