Police: Jealous Man Shoots Ex-Girlfriend, Her New Boyfriend Before Killing Self

SALINE (WWJ) - One person was killed and two others were injured in a shooting that authorities say was fueled by jealousy over a woman.

The incident unfolded just before 9:30 p.m. Thursday at the Six Trails Apartments off Michigan Avenue in Saline.

Police arrived on the scene to find a 23-year-old Saline woman and her 24-year-old boyfriend suffering from gunshot wounds.

The woman told police that her ex-boyfriend, a 27-year-old Ypsilanti man, was the gunman and he might have turned the gun on himself. Police located the man's body just inside the entrance to the apartment building with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was declared dead at the scene.

The woman and her current boyfriend were transported to local hospitals. She was last listed in stable condition, while he remains in critical condition.

Police say the preliminary motive behind the shooting appears to be jealousy.

Names of those involved are being withheld at this time.

An investigation is ongoing.

Michigan State Police and the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office assisted Saline police at the scene.
