Bag Of Clothing Causes Bomb Scare Outside Detroit Courthouse

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police say a suspicious package that was discovered outside of a courthouse in downtown Detroit turned out to be a bag of clothing.

The bomb squad responded to the corner of Washington and Lafayette boulevards, near the Detroit Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse, just before 7 a.m. Tuesday after a suspicious black bag was reported near a street light.

Technicians X-rayed the bag and determined it wasn't an explosive. Crews then inspected the bag, discovered it was harmless and gave the "all-clear."

The area was blocked off and service at the courthouse was disrupted for about two hours while crews assessed the situation.
