Police Investigate Deadly Double Shooting At Clinton Township Business

CLINTON TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Police are investigating a deadly double shooting at a Macomb County business.

The situation unfolded around 8:45 a.m. Tuesday at Reliable Fence, along Groesbeck Highway just north of 15 Mile Road in Clinton Township.

According to police, an employee who had a long-term dispute with a co-worker entered the business, pulled out a gun and shot the man in the back. Other workers intervened and while trying to wrestle the gun from the suspect, the weapon discharged and struck the business owner in the head, killing him instantly.

The suspect fled the scene, but was involved in an accident at Groesbeck and Kelly roads. He took off on foot after the collision, and was eventually apprehended by police about a mile away, at Kelly and Masonic.

The conditions of the co-worker, who remains hospitalized, and the driver involved in the crash are unknown.

The business owner's name has not yet been released but those who know him say he was a stand-up guy.

"A good guy, very relaxed, very laid back, a hard-worker, and that's all I can say," Don Caramanuel told WWJ's Charlie Langton.

Charges against the suspect are pending.

An investigation is ongoing.
