Police ID Woman Fatally Struck On 8 Mile Road As Hunt For Killer Driver Continues

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - Southfield police have identified a woman who was killed along 8 Mile Road by a hit-and-run driver.

Police say 44-year-old LaShawn Dawson, of Detroit, was struck by a vehicle just before 3 a.m. Tuesday while walking on 8 Mile between Southfield and Evergreen roads.

The driver involved in the accident didn't stop after striking Dawson, according to police, and fled southbound on Evergreen. Investigators are now looking for what could be a dark-colored vehicle with significant front end damage caused by the accident. A description of the person behind the wheel has not yet been released.
