Police ID Hit-And-Run Driver In I-75 Semi Crash Caught On Video

DETROIT (WWJ) - The driver allegedly responsible for a hit-and-run crash that caused a semi truck to overturn on I-75 in Detroit has been identified.

Michigan State Police Lt. Michael Shaw says that — after dramatic dash cam video was released to the media — tips began to come in.

One of those tips panned out.

"It led us to the suspect vehicle that we see on the video, and also the driver," said Shaw. "We're in the process now of conducting interviews and finishing up the investigation process."

When that's done, Shaw said, they'll be forwarding their findings to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office for possible charges.

The video shows a white Chevy cutting across the gore at the I-94 exit, clipping the semi and speeding away as the truck rolls over — crumbling as it strikes the median wall.

The freeway was closed for several hours following the incident at around 10:50 a.m. Monday. The driver of the semi was shaken up, but not injured, Shaw said.

The name of the driver allegedly responsible for the crash has not been released.
