Police Searching For Wanted Teenage Suspect In Redford

REDFORD (WWJ) - Authorities have surrounded a neighborhood in Redford where a manhunt is underway for a 16-year-old suspect.

The situation unfolded just before 8 a.m. Tuesday along Beech Daly Road, between 5 Mile and 6 Mile roads.

Police say they are looking for a 16-year-old black male wearing a green or gray hoodie and jeans. He is believed to be on foot, and is wanted on an outstanding warrant.

Officials have not yet confirmed what the warrant is for, but sources say the teen is wanted on weapons charges.

The teen was last seen running north on Beech Daly from a relative's home. It's not known if he is armed.

Other circumstances weren't immediately released.

Reporting live from the scene, WWJ's Charlie Langton said multiple officers are casing the neighborhood, some with K-9 units.

A resident who only wanted to be identified as Vee said she couldn't believe all of the commotion.

"I saw police dogs, I saw a police officer put a bike in the back of his police car, and the helicopters," she said.

An investigation is ongoing. The scene remains active.
