Police: Gunman Shoots Senior Citizen Who Didn't Have Any Cigarettes, Cash

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are searching for a gunman who shot and wounded a 65-year-old victim who didn't have any cigarettes or cash.

The incident happened around 6:20 a.m. Tuesday on Woodward Avenue and Peterboro Street, just south of Mack Avenue.

Police say the victim was standing outside of his vehicle in a pharmacy parking lot when the suspect approached and asked for a cigarette. When the victim told the suspect he didn't have any, police say the suspect pulled out a gun.

The victim again told the gunman he didn't have a cigarette or any money, according to police, and that's when the suspect opened fire.

The victim was taken to the hospital and was last reported in stable condition.

The gunman fled the scene after the shooting. He's described as a black male with a dark complexion, 30-35 years old and about 5-feet tall with a full beard.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 313-267-4600.
