Deputy Fatally Shoots 'Pit Bull Dog' Attacking Lawn Care Worker

DELTA TWP. (WWJ) - Authorities say a sheriff's deputy was forced to shoot and kill a dog described as a pit bull that was attacking a lawn care worker.

The incident happened around 8:50 a.m. Thursday, after the Eaton County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call from a home on West Willow Highway in Delta Township.

When the deputy arrived on the scene, the dog "was still biting and dragging the victim in the yard."

"As the deputy approached to stop the attack, the pit bull turned on the deputy who then shot and killed the dog," police said in a statement.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of numerous severe bite wounds.

Other circumstances were not released. It's unclear if the dog was a stray or owned by someone in the neighborhood.
