Police: Drive-By Shooting Kills 17-Year-Old In West Michigan

MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a 17-year-old high school basketball player has died following a drive-by shooting in the western Michigan community of Muskegon Heights.

Police say they haven't identified a suspect in the death of Marquis Gresham. The Muskegon Chronicle reports that Gresham was a junior at Muskegon Heights Public School Academy and a starting center on the Tigers' varsity basketball team.

Muskegon Heights police Chief Lynne Gill says Thursday that two people were taken into custody.

Gill says there was a "sort of disturbance" before the Wednesday night shooting, but it's unclear whether Gresham was the intended target of the shooting. Witnesses reported that multiple shots were fired from a moving vehicle.

The shooting is under investigation.
