Police: Distracted Driving Likely Cause Of Double Fatal Truck Crash On 29 Mile

RAY TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - State police say is appears distracted driving is blame for a double fatal accident in northern Macomb County.

Randall Carvey, 56, of CenterLine, and Wesley Kandt, 31, of New Haven died when Carvey lost control of his flatbed truck, ran off the road, over-corrected, crossed the center line and slammed into Kandt's box truck, according to police.

It happened at around 11 a.m. Saturday long 29 Mile Rd., between Wilcott and North Ave., in Ray Township.

Following the crash, the flatbed then hit a utility pole and became tangled in live electrical wires, police said. The drivers of both trucks died instantly in the collision.

Troopers investigating the accident determined that alcohol was not a factor in the accident, but that it appeared to be a case of distracted driving.

Monday morning state police said they were still  currently trying to determine if there was a passenger in the flatbed truck.

An investigation is ongoing.
