Police: Dispute Over Designer Glasses Sparked Fairlane Mall Shooting

DEARBORN (WWJ) - Authorities say two men were in a dispute over designer glasses before shots rang out in a corridor of Fairlane Town Center shopping mall.

Dearborn Police say the shots were fired Monday afternoon after a man tried to take a pair of designer glasses from another man. The two men know each other, according to police.

The victim, who has a license to carry a firearm, fired the first shots. The robber also returned fire. No one was hurt.

Police are following up on leads as they try to find the suspect.

The shooting sent the mall and nearby campuses of Henry Ford College and University of Michigan-Dearborn into lockdown, which was lifted shortly after the incident. Classes at both schools were also canceled for the night.

An investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information on the incident or the suspect is urged to contact police at 313-943-2240.
