Police: Boy Rams Van Into Store In Bid For Booze

FRENCHTOWN TOWNSHIP (AP) — Authorities in southeastern Michigan say a 13-year-old boy has been arrested after he took a van from his home and crashed it into a store in an attempt to steal alcohol.

Monroe County sheriff's officials said in a news release that deputies responded to an alarm at the Frenchtown Liquor Shoppe early Friday morning in Frenchtown Township. They say they followed the boy as he drove away and stopped him a short distance later.

Investigators say he used the van to crash into the store's front door to get inside. The release says he was trying to steal an undetermined amount of alcohol when police arrived.

He's lodged at the Monroe County Youth Center as deputies investigate.
