Police: Body Found In Flooded Detroit Basement

DETROIT (AP) - A man whose body was found in the flooded basement of a vacant house in Detroit had been shot in the chest.

MLive.com reports that an autopsy was performed Tuesday on the body identified by the Wayne County medical examiner's office as that of 21-year-old Demetrius Griffin of Detroit.

Officers responded Monday afternoon following a tip to the house on Detroit's west side.

Detroit broadcasters say the body was found in about 2 or 3 feet of water. It was recovered by the Detroit Police Underwater Recovery Team.

Dive team member Dean Rademaker tells WJBK-TV that the body was visible from outside through a side basement window. He and another member of the team helped searched the basement to make sure nothing else of interest to investigators was inside.
