Police: Body Of Homeless Man Found Floating In Clinton River

MOUNT CLEMENS (WWJ) - Authorities are investigating the death of a 60-year-old homeless man whose body was found floating in the Clinton River.

Witnesses discovered the body at around 8 p.m. Tuesday, in the water near 32 Riverview Street and MacArthur Park in Mount Clemens, according to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office.

The 911 caller — a 51-year-old Harrison Township man who was in a boat with his family — spotted the body caught in debris around 5 feet from the shore.

It appeared to have been in the water for quite some time, according to investigators.

Sheriff's officials said in a statement that the deceased man had an I.D. in a wallet in his back pocket and was also recognized by deputies who had encountered him in the past. His name wasn't immediately released.

There were no signs of foul play, however an investigation is continuing.

Autopsy results are pending to determine a cause of death.
