Police: Bicyclist Fatally Struck By Detroit Police Cruiser Rode Through Red Light

HIGHLAND PARK (WWJ) - Authorities say a bicyclist who was fatally struck by a Detroit police cruiser rode his bike through a red light just before the collision.

The incident happened around 11 p.m. Wednesday at Davison and Oakland in Highland Park, near the I-75 interchange.

Police say the man, who was in his 20's, rode his bike through a red light at the intersection and was struck. The officer involved had his lights and siren activated and was going to help another officer when the accident occurred, according to police.

The bicyclist was declared dead at this scene. His name hasn't been released.

An investigation is ongoing.
