Police: Alcohol A Factor In Wrong-Way Crash On Michigan Avenue

CANTON (WWJ) - Authorities say a head-on crash in Canton that left four people in critical condition might have been fueled by alcohol.

The accident happened just before 11 p.m. Friday on eastbound Michigan Avenue between Lilley Road and Sheldon Road.

According to police, a 30-year-old Lincoln Park man was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado westbound in the eastbound lanes of Michigan Avenue when he crashed head-on into a 2006 Toyota Camry, driven by a 23-year-old man from Westchester, OH.

Both drivers and their passengers sustained serious injuries and were transported to St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital in Ypsilanti. All four crash victims were last listed in critical condition.

Police say alcohol appears to have been a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Michigan Avenue was shut down for several hours as police investigated the scene, but has since reopened.
