Police: Alcohol A Factor In Rollover Crash That Killed 1, Injured 2 In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - A 30-year-old woman is hospitalized and facing charges after she allegedly drove drunk, killing a man and injuring a 3-year-old girl.

Detroit police say the accused was speeding — on Hayes Rd. near Linnhurst on the city's east side — when she lost control of her vehicle, flipped and crashed into a pole at around 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

The woman was placed under arrest and she and her young daughter, who was in the back seat of the car, were taken by EMS to a local hospital. Both were listed in temporary serious condition.

The man in the passenger's seat, identified by police as the driver's 66-year-old uncle, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not immediately released.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

The driver's name was not released pending a formal arrangement on a suspected OWI (operating while intoxicated) charge.
