Police: Alcohol A Factor In Crash That Left Motorcyclist Clinging To Life

ERIE TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Police in Monroe County say alcohol appears to be a factor in a crash that left a 64-year-old motorcyclist clinging to life.

The accident happened around 5:20 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Luna Pier Road and South Dixie Highway in Erie Township.

According to police, Richard Barron, of LaSalle, was driving a black Harley Davidson three-wheeled motorcycle eastbound on Luna Pier Road when he attempted to turn left onto South Dixie Highway.

Upon entering the intersection, police say Barron's motorcycle collided with a Jeep Grand Cherokee that was traveling westbound on Luna Pier Road.

Barron suffered serious injuries and was transported to Toledo Hospital in Ohio, where he was last reported in critical condition.

The Jeep driver, a 22-year-old Toledo man, and a passenger, a 53-year-old Temperance man, were uninjured in the crash.

Police say alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Anyone who might have witnessed the crash or who has any other information is urged to contact police at 734-240-7493.
