Police: 8 Arrests In East Lansing After Michigan State Win

EAST LANSING (WWJ/AP) - Several people have been arrested in East Lansing amid celebrations following Michigan State's victory over Iowa in the Big Ten championship game in Indianapolis.

The East Lansing Police Department reports eight people were arrested and 13 fires reported late Saturday and early Sunday - but damage wasn't significant and no injuries were reported. Among the items set ablaze were couches, a giant stuffed animal and a dumpster.

Broadcasters report hundreds gathered around the Cedar Village apartment complex just off campus - a hotspot over the years for postgame revelry and arrests.

Law enforcement officers, including some in riot gear, stood by and stepped in to disperse crowds after fireworks and fires started.

No. 5 Michigan State beat No. 4 Iowa 16-13 in another come from behind thriller.

Connor Cook led the Spartans (12-1) on a 22-play drive that set up Scott's 1-yard run. A half-dozen Iowa defenders tried to stop Scott, but he wouldn't be denied.

L.J. Scott kept lunging forward, stretching the ball over the goal line for a touchdown with 27 seconds and (then rated) No. 5 Michigan State locked up a spot in the College Football Playoff, edging No. 4 Iowa in the Big Ten championship game.
