Police: 2 Men Kill Dog, Steal Medical Marijuana

LANSING (WWJ/AP) - Police say two men armed with handguns robbed a man in his Lansing home, fatally shot a dog and fled after stealing money and medical marijuana.

Lansing Police Sgt. Del Kostanko said the robbery happened about 9 p.m. Tuesday at a home in the 3700 block of Stillwell Avenue on the city's southwest side.

The men -- both with handguns, one wearing a ski mask -- approached the home, knocked on the door and identified themselves as police, the Lansing State Journal reported.

Kostanko said the men then barged into the home and fatally shot the family dog, which was nursing puppies. The crooks then ransacked the house.

Four children were home at the time, but police believe they were sleeping. An adult male inside the home was uninjured.

Police said the robbery wasn't random, although they wouldn't elaborate. Investigators are seeking tips from the public.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Lansing police at 517-483-4600.
