Police: 2 In Truck Dead After Michigan Crash Involving Amtrak Train

WAYNE, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say two people have died after the truck they were in was struck by an Amtrak passenger train in suburban Detroit.

Police say the crash happened Wednesday night at a railroad crossing in Wayne as the truck tried to go around crossing gates that were down. Amtrak says the train was heading to Pontiac, Michigan, from Chicago and had 90 people aboard. No injuries were reported to passengers or crew on the train.

One of the victims was identified as 58-year-old Shirley Kendricks of Romulus. A man also was killed.

Amtrak says the train was delayed for nearly three hours before it continued to its destination. The crash is under investigation by police.
