Police: 2 Charged With Murder After Baby Girl Killed By Blow To The Chest

HAMTRAMCK (WWJ) - Two people have been arrested and charged after a baby was killed in Hamtramck.

According to Wayne County prosecutors, Hamtramck police responded to a 911 call to a home in the 2600 block of Commor in Hamtramck, late Tuesday morning, where they found 27-year-old Asia Markham outside holding her infant daughter, who was unresponsive.

The woman told officers the child, 16-year-old Asia Markham, was found not breathing. She was rushed to Children's Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide after an autopsy showed the child died from blunt force trauma to the chest.

Asia Markham and a second suspect, 23-year-old Christopher Scott Olinger — both of Hamtramck — were charged Friday with first degree murder and first degree child abuse.

Both are expected to be arraigned at 11 a.m  Saturday in 34th District Court in Romulus.

Prosecutors say further information on the case will be presented at the preliminary examination.
