Police: 1 Dead, 7 Hurt After Crash Involving Casino Taxi Van

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) - Police say a 26-year-old Virginia man is dead and seven people were injured when a taxi van heading to a casino hit a vehicle in mid-Michigan.

State police say in a statement the man died following the crash about 1:45 a.m. Friday in the Mount Pleasant area. Police say he was a passenger in the vehicle that failed to stop at a flashing red light. The vehicle was hit by the taxi van, which had the right of way.

Police say the driver of the pickup - a 31-year-old from Virginia - was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police say the Stargazer Transportation van was heading to Soaring Eagle Casino. The driver and five passengers had what police said were a variety of injuries.

The crash is under investigation.
