Plymouth Garage Caves In Under Heavy Snow [VIDEO]

PLYMOUTH (WWJ) - The weight of this season's snow may be to blame for a roof collapse in Plymouth.

"It's a disaster; an absolute mess. The snow has done me in this year," said homeowner John Magnuson, who told WWJ's Sandra McNeil it looks like a hurricane came through.

Magnuson said there was no warning before his snow-covered, six-car double-deep garage on Thursday suddenly gave out.

"My wife came home, parked the car in the garage and didn't notice anything; nothing was wrong. She came in the house and my neighbor called me about 35 minutes later and said, 'Your roof fell in in the garage,'" Magnuson said.  "It literally imploded."

He said two family cars were crushed and a third one was damaged. On top of that, he fears the worst for his two classic vehicles: a Town Car and a Mustang.

"Both very nice," Magnuson said. "One won class in the Mustang show this year. So, unfortunately the roof is sitting on it, and I know it's totaled. You can't even get to the cars."

Magnuson said he's just glad he has insurance, and that no one was hurt.

"Right now they (the insurance company) said the emergency thing is to get the garage dismantled, because if it falls on somebody that's a bigger liability," he said. "They want it torn down, and then we'll worry about replacement afterwords."

Magnuson said the insurance company told him they've had multiple calls about garage cave-ins this winter.
