Plans Call For Park At Site Of 2013 Meth Lab Explosion

CHARLOTTE, Mich. (AP) - Plans call for demolishing a Michigan building that was the site of a 2013 methamphetamine lab explosion and turning it into a small park.

The Lansing State Journal reports it could cost the city of Charlotte as much as $50,000 to demolish the downtown building across the street from city hall and develop the park, but plans call for private donors raising $35,000 by the end of July for the project.

Authorities say a man was making meth in March 2013 in an apartment on the second floor when the explosion damaged the building.

Officials say the project would get rid of an eyesore.

Mayor Tim Lewis says people refer to the building as the "meth building" and it's hindering downtown revitalization efforts.
