Plane At Metro Airport Evacuated After Strong Smoke Smell Reported In Cabin

ROMULUS (WWJ) -- A plane taxiing at Detroit Metro Airport had to stop and get 54 passengers and crew out after a strong smoke smell was discovered in the cabin on Monday.

Airport spokesman Mike Conway said that there were no injuries and that Delta Canadair Flight 4103 was set to take off for Cincinnati when the incident happened just after 6 p.m. Monday evening.

"Our fire department responded, police responded, investigated -- they didn't see any evidence of a fire, no flames or no evidence of anything burning, but there was a smoke smell, there was a heat source near the back."

Conway said that a heavy smoke smell developed in both the cockpit and the cabin as the plane was forced to stop.
