Pilot Walks Away From Plane Crash In Rural Macomb County

RAY TWP. (WWJ) - Authorities say a 46-year-old pilot was able to walk away with just a small laceration after his plane crashed in rural Macomb County.

The crash happened around 6:10 p.m. Thursday on Indian Trail, near the Ray Community Airport off of 27 Mile Road in Ray Township.

When deputies arrived on the scene, EMS crews were already treating the pilot, who was the lone occupant of the plane. The Clinton Township man said he was attempting to land his Comp Air 8 Turbo Prop plane at the airport when he crashed.

A witness told police that he was watching as the plane made a "hard left turn" into the ground while approaching the runway.

The pilot, who was not named, was able to walk away from the crash with some bruises and a small scratch on his face.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash.
